Asylum and migration has been a research theme at the WODC for some years already. The wide diversity of migrants has been increasing even more in recent years. This brings social challenges along with it and raises questions which require research. For example, the WODC is examining the effectiveness of the admission policy, the reception of aliens and the follow-up steps.
In recent years, the WODC has collaborated in various projects with external parties such as Statistics Netherlands, the Netherlands Institute for Social Research and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. Examples of questions that were examined include: who are the people who entered our country, how is integration of asylum seekers progressing, how can the residents of asylum seekers' centres become more involved in their supervision and range of programmes?
