Evaluation of policy and legislation

When a law comes into force, it is usual for that legislation to be evaluated after a number of years. The WODC evaluates lots of legislation in the field of justice and security covering every possible topic. The WODC also analyses existing or proposed policy. Over the years, the number of evaluations of varying types of legislation and policy has grown significantly.

For the Minister and for Parliament, these evaluations of legislation are important instruments when testing new or revised legislation: did the law achieve the intended objectives? The results of the evaluation of legislation can give the legislator cause to revise the law or to implement other policy measures.
