Public prosecution office

The Public Prosecution Service ensures that criminal offences are detected and prosecuted. Under the Dutch court system, suspects are prosecuted by a Public Prosecutor from the Public Prosecution Service (OM: Openbaar Ministerie), acting on behalf of society. So how does the Public Prosecution Service operate within the criminal justice system? Is there sufficient supervision of administrative actions in criminal cases? The WODC has coordinated several investigations into the activities of the Public Prosecution Service.
