When the Public Prosecution Service decides to prosecute, the defendant is brought to trial. The WODC examines various aspects of the criminal justice system. How does the system function in practice? How large is the Netherlands' capacity to conduct criminal proceedings, and is this proportionate to the expected number of criminal cases? The WODC periodically assesses these issues in cooperation with the Council for the Judiciary.
