Commissioning Research Division (EWB)

Some of the research carried out for the Ministry of Justice is outsourced. The research initiative lies with the Ministry of Security and Justice. The Commissioning Research Division (EWB) is responsible for all phases of the outsourcing process.

Chief: Mrs. drs. A.L. Daalder (Annelies)

EWB advises whether research is needed or desirable, appoints steering committees, monitors quality, does the financial planning, sets the project time schedule and presents the findings to the management of the department. All of this takes place in close dialogue with the departmental policy board, to which the findings are eventually submitted. Research organisations and centres that have ideas for a research project can request funding from the Ministry of Security and Justice. These requests are assessed twice a year by EWB and must fulfil several criteria to receive funding. A steering committee is set up for most research that is contracted out. Background information on how to apply for funding can be found in the brochure 'Wegwijzer bij financiering van onderzoek' (Guide to research funding). This brochure (in Dutch only) is available from EWB.
