Violence narrated; offender, victim and witness accounts of 'street violence'

Violence narrated; offender, victim and witness accounts of 'street violence'

Summary

This issue reports on the second part of the study into street violence between strangers. Part 1 (Violence, listed and counted) comprises details from the police regions Rotterdam-Rijnmond and IJsselland. Based on the reports of incidents of violence in 1998 in these regions, an observation was made as to how often street violence occurs, describing the offender and victim profiles. Part 2 continues to build on these basic data. It deals more specifically with a limited number of victims of violence by means of additional case information and through interviews with offenders, victims and bystanders. An attempt is made to get an insight into the backgrounds and motives of violent offenders.
