Prosecution in juvenile criminal cases

Summary

The aim of this research memorandum is to provide an insight into the application of, and experiences with, the sentencing guideline in juvenile cases, effective since 1 August 1997. It is set out as follows: Chapter 2 deals with settlement options available to police and justice and procedural settlement of juvenile criminal cases by the Public Prosecution Service. This is followed by a discussion of the function of and embedding of guidelines at the Public Prosecution Service. Chapter 3 discusses the research results, presenting interviews held with public prosecutors and their clerks. Chapter 4 formulates a response to the research questions, with conclusions and some recommendations.
