Summary

This is the first (interim) report in the WODC study into the role of the Public Prosecutor and the examining judge in the French and Dutch pre-trial investigation phase. Set up as a comparative law survey, it is based on a literature survey, completed with research into the practice of investigation by means of interviews and observations. The report comprises two parts: 1) an introduction into French law; and 2) a study into steering and monitoring the police in France and the Netherlands.
