The Legal Aid Act that came into effect on 1 January 1994 has changed the eligibility requirements for legal aid subsidy. What are the implications of this change in the use of legal aid? To what extent were these consequences intended by the legislator? Various types of implications were researched on the basis of the objectives for amending the conditions.. To what extent can unforeseen supply effects in legal aid be found? Do people seeking justice take a more critical approach when calling in lawyers? To what extent has this led to the erroneous deprivation of legal aid? Has the Act helped to promote the principle of equality with regard to the person seeking justice? This report provides an insight into the consequences, deliberate or otherwise. In addition, attention is paid to the interpretation of the theoretical framework that was at the basis of the search for consequences.
