Violent crime among juveniles in the Netherlands - trends and causes

Summary

This survey on violent crime by youngsters focuses on the following three questions:

  1. How has violent crime amongst youngsters developed since 1985? Which factors may have distorted the official data? 

  2. What is known from scientific literature on the underlying causes of aggression and violence amongst youngsters? 

  3. How can a potential increase in the violence by youngsters be explained in the light of this knowledge?

The object of the study was to analyse and explore existing insights into the development and underlying causes of violent crime amongst youngsters.
