Solutions to the problem of so-called orphan works in the context of digitalization of collections of archives and libraries

Summary

This research aims to make an inventory of existing and proposed solutions to the problem of so-called orphan works in the cotext of digitalization of collections of archives, including libraries. Orphan works occur when a user wishes to use a work in a manner requiring the right owner's consent, but cannot locate the right owner. An inventory has been made of possible solutions found in Canada, England, France, Germany, Sweden and the United States.
