The kick

Summary

There is nothing quite as personal as experiencing a kick. The Van Dale dictionary defines this broadly as 'a pleasant emotion that is the result of a particular experience (...)'. Usually, however, a kick is related to feelings of excitement, tension and fun that people experience when in danger of some kind: extreme sports, stunts, violating rules, bizarre sex, unique physical experiences, overcoming fear and so on. 'Sensation seeking' is the term used in psychology. By looking into the phenomenon of a 'kick', an attempt is made to better understand the relevance and experience of norm violation and crime today.
