Summary

After the murder of Theo van Gogh (November 2, 2004) the Dutch minister of Justice announced that a possible extension of the scope of the offences of defamination and blasphemy will be explored. This study deals with this subject and examines the backgrounds of penalization of blasphemy and related offences, both in the Netherlands and in some foreign jurisdictions.
