The aim of the study is to describe the current state of affairs four years after the date on which the Acts were introduced. To what extent have the envisaged aims of the Act been achieved and what improvements could be made? This aim is achieved by addressing the following main issue: how is the judiciary functioning four years after the introduction of the Council for the Judicial Settlement Act [Wet Raad voor de Rechtspraak] and the Organisation and Administration of Courts Act [Wet Organisatie en Bestuur Gerechten]? To what extent have the envisaged aims of the Acts been achieved, what bottlenecks have been encountered and what have been the (undesirable) side effects? The study is an across the board study and forms part of an evaluation programme with regard to the modernisation of the judiciary. This evaluation programme is being carried out under the responsibility of the Deetman Committee.
