Demand for judicial products is partly determined by demographic developments, particularly the decline in the number of active younger people and an ageing work population in the Netherlands. The aim of this study is to examine what consequences these developments may have in terms of demand for judicial activities and facilities so that the Ministry of Justice is able to respond to this in a timely manner. The main issue that this study attempts to address was as follows: what effect do demographic, economic and social developments have in the Netherlands in the medium-term (5 to 15 years) on crime, the judicial facilities required and personnel needed to staff such facilities?
