Feasibility study into regional recidivism rates among offenders of high impact crimes in the Netherlands

(full text only available in Dutch)

Summary

The current study focused on the feasibility of calculating regional recidivism rates for domestic burglars, muggers and robbers, for whom the HIC offence has irrevocably ended in a court order or has been settled by the Public Prosecution Service in 2013. The following research questions were addressed:

  1. Is it possible to calculate expected recidivism rates per region for the HIC offenders, using the five region variables ‘court district’, ‘safety region’, ‘G4’, ‘municipality size’ and ‘urbanicity’, by taking differences in the composition of the population between regions into account?
  2. If the answer to the first research question is yes: what are the actual and expected recidivism rates per region for HIC offenders?
