Summary

In the summer of 2015, the number of asylum applications in the Netherlands peaked and, according to citizens, migration became the most important social problem in society. Politically, migration also became a controversial issue again. This is an in-depth study into attitude developments regarding the arrival of asylum seekers in the Netherlands and to relate these attitudes to social unrest, escalation and possible threats to national security.
