The aim of this report is to analyse the possible advantages and disadvantages of using independent case managers in the alien chain. Furthermore, it answers the question concerning what crucial limiting conditions and working methods exist to make case management in the alien chain successful. In this report, case management is interpreted as offering independent and personal support to asylum seekers, from entry to integration or perhaps to their return to their land of origin, taking into account both the interests of the government and the alien.
The research questions were answered by studying a number of examples of case management abroad in more depth. This concerns examples of case management in Australia (four projects), Belgium, the United Kingdom (two projects), Sweden (two projects).
